Jesus Is Baptized
Jesus had a cousin named John, who lived far from town near
the Jordan River. He spoke with powerful words and told people to
repent of their sins. People called him John the Baptist or John the Baptizer.
His clothes were made from camel hair and he wore a wide leather belt.
He caught locusts and ate them with honey. “Turn to God and be baptized
because God is about to do something wonderful very soon. Get ready.
God’s Messenger will soon be here,” John said.
More and more people came to listen to John and they asked him, “Are you
the One who is going to save us as it is promised in the Bible?” But John said,
“No, I am not Him, but I am preparing everything for Him.” So John baptized
many people in the Jordan River to mark their decision of starting a new, fresh
life. They would be honest and stop doing evil to others.
One day Jesus came out to the Jordan River where John was baptizing
people. Jesus went over to John and asked to be baptized by him. But John
said, “Jesus, You don’t need to be baptized. I need to be baptized by You.”
John knew that Jesus was God’s son. But Jesus said, “I want you to baptize
Me. This is how it must be.” So John baptized Jesus.
