The favourite son of Jacob, Joseph was sold to a group of Ishmaelite merchants as a slave by his jealous brothers. On reaching Egypt he was bought by Potiphar, head of Pharoah's military forces. Despite resisting the temptation of Potiphar's wife, he was found guilty of having seduced her and was imprisoned along with the Pharoah's butler and his baker, accused of having stolen the Sun God's bracelet. When Joseph showed his talent in interpreting dreams, he was called to interpret the Pharoah's vision and announced the imminent famine. He was rewarded with favours and powers. During the famine Joseph's brothers came to him without recognising him and only after a series of events did Joseph reveal his identity. In the end Jacob and his people settled in Egypt and Jacob was finally able to embrace the son he had believed lost for many years. Directed by Roger Young, Joseph was awarded the 1995 Emmy for best television series - the first Italian production to be granted such international acclaim.
