THE WAY TO BLESSING
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers. PSALM 1:1
The purpose of the book of Psalms is indeed to show the way to a blessed life. Such a life is always a life with God, a life in relationship with Him. Blessings cannot be had apart from God, because it is He who blesses!
This psalm says we cannot allow anyone or anything to detract us from living a life with God. If we “walk” among those who do not know God – and our world is filled with unbelieving and even wicked people – we may later “stand,” that is become comfortable, with those who do wrong. After all, “everyone does it.” Before we know it we will “sit,” in other words be at home with people who have turned their backs on God.
